Homeworking creates more opportunities for both business and employees and allows for flexible working. But simultaneously it has some disadvantages also which leads to slow working and lack of effectiveness. 

Advantages Of Working From Home

1. Higher Productivity

Work from home increases the consistency of work which ultimately leads to higher productivity of both the employees and company. As you are doing your work from home only, you are not getting interrupted by a group of friends or family. It increases your work concentration and helps you in becoming more focussed.

2. You will become an expert in communication

When you are working from home and have a quick meeting, it involves skyping, web meetings, texting, etc. Hence, it helps in boosting your communication skills.

3. Flexible Schedule

You can take breaks at any time for breakfast, lunch or for anything else. Also. you can even take a nap when feeling low or sleepy. There is no need to wear formals and shoes anymore and you can easily work in your favorite pajamas. So, It gives you a flexible schedule and you can work accordingly with full freedom.

4. Save Money

Lunch and snacks cost really high when you are working in a city or downtown. But if you are working from home, you can prepare your own food or buy from the cheapest store. So, it helps in saving money.

5. Relief From Crowds and Traffic

As you are working from home, there is no need to travel anywhere or to stand in long queues at the metro station or in traffic. So, it helps in saving your time by avoiding a huge crowd and traffic.

Disadvantages Of Work From Home

1. Not Have Full Access To Technology Platforms

When you are from home, you might not get access to all the technology platforms for example cloud technology. Also, slower wifi and low internet speed at home lead to the delaying of work. All these, technology and speed problem creates a hurdle for the employees and not allow hassle-free communication

2. Hard To Manage and Oversee Accountability

Due to work from home, you can not watch your team in one physical space. It becomes hard to monitor how they work and manage their performance. Also, it is not easy to hold a remote team accountable. The remote team requires more micromanagement to ensure that they are on the right track.

3. Lack Of Office Equipment

No access to office equipment was reported by 33% of survey participants as a disadvantage of homeworking. If your work involves the use of specialized equipment, it is difficult to manage the same environment at home. For example, a high-speed Multi functional printer, a fax machine can cost you a high amount of money.

4. Lack Of Security

Work from home does not provide full proof security to the company’s sensitive data and confidential information. Storing data and transferring money online leads to potential vulnerabilities and penalties. So data leaks and employees stealing data is a valid reason to stick to co-located offices. 

5. Increased Telecommunication costs

When you are working from home, you need a high internet and a fast speed. It increases your telephone and broadband bills. Also, your company needs to fulfill all the needed requirements of the employee. So, it is one of the disadvantages of working from home.
